Since the 1980s, Dog Among the Bushes has been surprising audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. They have played in clubs, festivals and concerts in the United States and Europe. They were the first American band invited to the international Lorient Interceltic Festival in France, and they have also toured and performed in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Ireland.

For the past few years, Dogs Among the Bushes has performed extensively in the Washington-Baltimore area, and are regulars at the historic Cat's Eye Pub in Baltimore, and at Sean Donlan's in Annapolis. They have appeared with internationally known artists like Fairport Convention, Dan Ar Bras, and Andy Irvine. Charlie MacVicar (vocals, uillean pipes, whistle, harmonica, flute) is one of America's leading uillean pipers, and is well-known in Ireland. His intense performances and virtuosity have earned him a loyal following. C.B. Heinemann (vocals, guitars, bouzouki)is one of America's most respected celtic musicians, and Geoffrey Himes of the Washington Post said his songs "...are among the best Celtic-folk-rock numbers coming from either side of the Atlantic." Bob Young (bass) was a member of several well-known D.C. bands, and his unique bass style weaves through the music, and at the same time drives the rhythm.
