See my web site at http://rrsongs.com/!My name is Frank Strong and I am a rostered artist for the Iowa Arts Council, pARTners Unlimited and Metro Arts Alliance of Des Moines. I was born in Council Bluffs, the eastern terminus of the Union Pacific Railroad. From my early years I acquired an interest in the historical, cultural and economic effects of the building and operation of railroads. Since I also love music, this motivated me to record a CD of railroad songs. The railroad songs on this CD celebrate the colorful history of building, maintaining and riding the railroad system throughout the United States. The music of the railroads documents a part of U.S. history which contains a unique heritage from our forefathers. The songs tell the story of the struggles, challenges, and achievements of those who built, ran and were influenced by the railroads. These railroad songs were first performed by folks who had little, if any, formal musical training. The need to express ourselves artistically is older than recorded history. These songwriters reflected the events of the day by writing wonderful songs about their varying railroad experiences and passing the songs and stories down through the generations. I hope you will learn more about the history of the railroad through these songs. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I do performing these enduring songs.
