Mitch and Eileen Rice have been playing together since 1978, bringing their upbeat renditions of traditional American songs in the Appalachian style as it lives on in Indiana. Their biggest influence was Lotus Dickey, whose ability to share his love of old music with anyone he met has a source of ongoing inspiration. The Hotcakes are best known for their role in providing music and entertainment for the children who attend Bloomington’s Farmers’ Market. Eileen’s limberjacks fascinate even the youngest and inspire toddlers to dance and play along, while adults appreciate the variety of both familiar and more obscure songs that have stood the test of time.
