While earning a degree in Voice at Berea College, Jennifer sang in the Berea College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, and performed with the Berea College Country Dancers, both as a dancer and musician, often singing between dance numbers and sometimes playing as part of the band. Her performances with the Dancers took her to Japan, Denmark and Italy, as well as throughout the United States.
Since graduation from Berea College in 1992 Jennifer has widened her performance experience to include working at a dude ranch in Colorado as Entertainer, and providing educational and entertaining solo concerts in the United States and Europe. Now she is a full-time performer with a busy schedule of concert tours, teacher development seminars, appearances in musical productions, and educational residencies in schools.
When she's not out entertaining or teaching she stays home with her husband, Alfredo, daughters, Lydia and Isabel and their Jack Russell, Opie, in their country home in Kentucky. Baby Isabel, born August 2003 is a joy to her family!
Jennifer's musical concerts are a superb combination of the entertaining and the educational. She carries her audiences with her to her green, Kentucky hills as she sings in her clear soprano voice the emotional music of Appalachia, interspersed with humorous and informative stories about the region and its culture. Listeners have commented, "I felt as though she were singing just to me," and, "Jennifer's voice is as clear as the mountain air." Audiences leave feeling transported and refreshed, and are always ready to hear when the next concert is scheduled in their area.
This recording is Jennifer's ninth release, and her favorite so far. Christmas has always held a special place in Jennifer's heart, ever since her early childhood experiences of taking coats and managing the guest book at her family's annual Christmas Open House. Jennifer's love for Christmas and its music stems from her deeply personal religious faith as well as a great affection for any heartfelt music. The three classical pieces on this recording are the result of the continuous nagging of fans to "do something" with the voice training Jennifer received at Berea College.
This "something" turned out to be a recording with a seamless blend of classical and folk, in a comfortable array that only someone as versatile and talented as Jennifer Rose could accomplish. Listeners are sure to enjoy the honest renditions of "Brightest and Best" accompanied by the guitar and "The Cherry Tree Carol" accompanied on the dulcimer as much as they enjoy the clarity and obvious professionalism of "O Holy Night" and "Ave Maria," accompanied by Jennifer's sister on the piano. Listening to this CD is an instant journey to the hope and happiness of the Christmas season at its traditional best, whatever the time of year.
