Did you see the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou" and notice that the song "I'll Fly Away" was not the same as on the soundtrack CD? Well, you're right. In the movie you heard the Kossoy Sisters. Now you can hear them on a new CD "Hop On Pretty Girls" (Living Folk).
The Kossoy Sisters, identical twins Irene and Ellen, have been singing traditional songs in their clear bell-like harmonies since the early 1950's. They performed at the first Newport Folk Festival and were part of the music scene in Greenwich Village's Washington Square in New York City. By the age of 20, they had performed widely in New York. Their legendary album "Bowling Green" which includes the song "I'll Fly Away" was recorded by Tradition Records in the mid-50's and has inspired and influenced many singers through the years. The album was re-released as a CD by Rykodisc in 1997. Irene and Ellen have sung all over the United States at festivals, concerts and coffee houses. Their new CD "Hop On Pretty Girls" largely consists of southern mountain traditional songs, but also has two original songs by the sisters. Accompanying them are Pete Sutherland, Lorraine and Bennett Hammond and others. Check out the artist's website: http://www.livingfolk.com Track List: 1. Gypsy Girl 2. Dry Bones 3.
