Leo Derderian hails from Indian Orchard , Mass. A nuclear engineer by trade, he enjoys making recordings of middle eastern music. At the age of five he played the middle
eastern drum called a dumbeg. Leo studied violin then graduated to the oud at the age of thirteen. With the help of other middle eastern musicians (Mickey Kerneklian clarinet, Peruz Manoukian piano organ, Vahe Magarian drums, John Bolus, guitar and Leo Sarkissian kanoon), he has produced and directed a total of nine LP lenght recordings over the years. He had his own recording studio and is regarded as an oud virtuoso. He has performed with the present group of musicians for over twenty five years. Some of the more notable performances include the Nelson Rockefeller family, the Hariri Society, the Saudi Royal Family, the United Arab Emirates, and several Presidential Inaugural events. His style is clean delicate, and dynamically sensitive. He has earned the respect of his fellow musicians.
