O'Malley's Luck performs toe-tappin', knee-slappin', put-a-smile-on-your-face traditional American and Celtic fiddle tunes and songs for backyard or front porch parties, community, barn, and contra dances, atmosphere music, art show openings, political party gatherings, picnics, libraries, schools, campgrounds, churches, living history events, parades, public and private parties and community celebrations, organizations, and families, etc.
Though all O'Malley's Luck's bandmates claim Scot, Irish, or Scots-Irish heritage through their family trees, none are related to the O'Malley clan, at least not that is currently known by any of the members. Many are still involved in their geneological search for even a slim connection to the O'Malley's especially the pirate queen, Grania (Grace) O'Malley. In fact, the O'Malley's who conceived and launched the band have never been able to make a performance let alone even the first rehearsal. Such is O'Malley's Luck! Seamonus, the band's first recording is full of the fun and energy that the bandmembers find in playing traditional Celtic music. They find the tunes on this recording tug deeply at their heart and soul strings fueling their fire, verve, and passion for the music of the Celts. Many of the tunes are medleys of two tunes or more. Polkas, jigs, reels, a waltz and more are to be found on this recording. As for the shortness of the cd, there's only 27 minutes of music, the band all say, "Seam on us!" Hence the title. Part of the playfulness, fun, and luck of O'Malley's Luck. THE BAND: LOTTIE TRUDELL, pennywhistle, autoharp and vocals, brings 30 years of woodwind experience and love for Celtic and traditional American songs to the forefront in O'Malley's Luck. Lottie is also an accomplished contra dancer and former member of the all women folk band, Just For Fun. LINDA SLACK, mandolin, banjolin, fiddle, and vocals, with a string band legacy from her father and uncle, brings 20 years of experience, and spirit to O'Malley's Luck coupled with her passion and study of traditional American and Celtic music. Linda also performs with Just For Fun. JOHN KINSER, bodhran, congas, hand percussion, and backup vocals, brings 30 years of perscussion experience as a member of numerous rock and jazz musical projects, and love of Celtic and traditional American music to the band. John performs with Fire In The Belly, also. JOSH NOBILING, brings 10 years of musical talent on guitar to the band by providing strong rhythm underlying and enhancing the melodies and vocals of the band's repertoire. Josh performs Reggae, Ska and Punk with his band Sangween and with Fire In The Belly. JOE NOBILING, fiddle, mandolin, 5-string banjo and vocals, has performed over the past 30 years as a soloist and in bands at a wide variety of events, such as listed in the first paragraph, throughout Iowa, Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and parts of Missouri and Indiana. Joe also performs with Fire In The Belly. When life conflicts, or event budget constraints occur spin-offs of O'Malley's Luck occur. One such spin-off, known as Fire In The Belly, includes Joe Nobiling, Josh Nobiling and John Kinser performing much of the same, and some different, material as O'Malley's Luck. Another spin-off involves Joe and Josh Nobiling performing in a duo setting. Drawing on Joe's twenty plus years of experience as a storyteller, a program or performance includes traditional American, Celtic, and original songs and tunes performed on guitar, mandolin, fiddle, 5-string banjo and harmonica interspersed with stories about the background and origin of the tunes, instruments, and songs performed. Added to the mix, Joe tells American Indian, African, and Celtic stories and tall tales for children of all ages. Track List: 1. John Stinson & John Ryan 2. Farewell to Whiskey Before Breakfast 3.
