TO HAVE AND TO HOLD
Well here it is my first album featuring 29 original tunes. It may seem like I have put in everything I ever wrote, but I assure you there are many more where these came from. To those that know me some of these may come as a surprise. They are clearly not just Oldtimey, Contra Dance and Irish. The most often heard comment is that would be great in a movie! To all movie moguls, please call me up about using my music in your next blockbuster. A quote from Rich Sobel. I thought my wife was complaining when she came home from work and said "I had Paul's tunes stuck in my head all day today at work." And then she said, " But it was ok because they're really good tunes.". That was the day after I had been listening to one of the preproduction versions of the CD and I couldn't have said it any better myself. These ARE really good tunes. So the time is way overdue that Paul's music was unleashed upon the rest of an unsuspecting world. I hope you all become as infected and addicted to these tunes as I have, with their range of emotions and styles from the frenetic Klezmer energy of "New Potatoes and Vasalisa's Breakdown" to the jazzy "Waiting for the Power", to the simple and elegant sweetness of "To Have and To Hold", Paul's wedding waltz to his wife, Karen. Well done ABOUT Paul Gitlitz is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, producer & engineer. He has performed music styles ranging from Celtic fiddle for country dances to electric guitar with a Trinidadian steel drum band with many in between. He has produced over a two dozen albums, one of which received a Juno award and five others nominations. As well as recording an album of original tunes "TO HAVE AND TO HOLD" Paul has published two books of original fiddle tunes, GIBLITZ FANCY and HUNTERS AND GATHERERS, both available from his site. BACKGROUND Paul Gitlitz began his musical career in his New York City elementary school with trumpet lessons and membership in the school orchestra. In junior high he took up the electric bass and began performing with "Somethin' Fierce" playing school dances. Paul also began song writing in his teens. After a relocation to Vancouver BC his more formal education was received in music programs at CAPILANO COLLEGE and the UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. Paul's recording career began at age 11 when his dad brought home reel to reel recorder. This was a endlessly facinating tool. Paul purchased his first "sound on sound" recorder in 1973 and quickly jumped into multitrack recording with the first cassette based home studio setups in the 80's. At the same time he was making demos in a more professional studio and learning the ropes that prepared him to producer Charlotte Diamond's first Juno award winning album in '86. He setup his own studio in the 90's and has steadily been gaining both gear and experience as an engineer and producer. The composing has never stopped nor has the interest in acquisition of instruments and styles. The new CD clearly reflects this.
