Over a twenty year period Sekou traveled the contintal U.S. teaching and performing for an array of African dance companies, local Arts Councils and colleges, producing drum camps and facilitating healing drum sessions. In the year 2000, Sekou founded the Djembekan School Of Percussion (now the SÃˆNÃˆKÃˆ SCHOOL OF PERCUSSION)in Memphis TN. Sekou is presently principle drummer for LEGENDS OF WEST AFRICA (Columbia S.C, Ensemble directed by Mamoudou Conde and Mamady Keita), ALYO CHILDRENS DANCE THEATER, MUNTU DANCE THEATER, LE BAGATAE (Chicago, IL. Company of world re-known Mustafa Bangoura) and founder of SÃˆNÃˆKÃˆ (Rhythm Ensemble).
Sekou spends his life sharing and creating opportunities for youth and people abroad to learn and understand the importance and principles of African culture and music. Through his efforts to shed light and knowledge about his cultural heiritage, he produced and recorded four CD's of traditional Manding music. SÃ©kou is well known for his love, knowledge, intense seriousness and passion for his culture and Healing Traditions of his Ancestors.
1.BÃ¶rÃ¶- Fetish/spirit. Two Manding rhythms are performed here: Kawa and Soliwoulen. Both are present to protect the village from evil.
2.NÃ©- (Metal) Composed by SÃ©kou for the Numu (Blacksmiths).
3.Taama Djeli- (The walk of the Djeli) Composed and performed by Uche Omoniyi on FoulÃ© (Fulani Flute). Uche expresses his experience, love and honor to the Djeli families of Manding.
4.Toro- Manding rhythm from the region of Siguiri, performed after the initiations of young boys.
5.BuuÃ±aa- (Appreciation), SÃ©kou is joined by Djeli Morikeba kouyate to express his love and appreciation he has for his Uncle Mamoudou CondÃ© for all that he has done for him and all of his achievements with all of the national ballets of the Republic of Guinee, (Les Ballet Africains, Ballet Djoliba, Les Merveilles d'Afrique, Percussions De Guinee, and Les Amozones).
6.SÃ¶kÃ¶- Manding rhythm performed for the Bilakoro (uninitiated boys) a few months before their circumcision.
7.Konden- Manding masquerade that protects the uninitiated children at the same causing fear and terror on the children by chasing them with branches, if they are disobedient.
8.N'Goron- Originating among the Senufo of the Ivory Coast. This rhythm is performed to mark the ritual passage of young men into full male membership.
9.Konkoba- A Manding rhythm performed to support and encourage the farmers as they work in the fields.
