Steve Rupe is a Nashville songwriter. His music was influenced by Chicago blues, Kansas City jazz, and Nashville country. He originally became aware of folk music through the Kingston Trio and found his way back after moving to Nashville.
Steve was a backup singer on the Grand Ol' Opry in 1994. He has worked with Joe Diffie, Gillian Welch, Bill Lloyd, Tony Arata, Dave and Sugar, Bailey and the Boys, Glenn Kaiser and many others. A community-minded soul, Steve makes his living working with MR/DD individuals and has used his Nashville connections and talents to raise funds and awareness for many community causes. His proudest artistic achievements are the songs written for and with Nashville Fats. Steve is the Nashville Coordinator for The Peter Thorpe Memorial Fund, a benevolent organization which assists independent musicians. Through the Peter Thorpe Memorial Fund, Steve plans to develop a program to mentor songwriters who come to Nashville to hone their craft.
