Repertoire
Winners of 2003 Northern Harmony a cappella festival in Edmonton, Alberta, the CHICKAdivas cover a range of genres. Heritage: The CHICKAdivas began with an interest in Canadian folk music from various regions across the country: Klondike saloon songs, Newfoundland sea-shanties, prairie settlement songs, and Quebec folk songs. Jazz and Pop: A variety of music in different styles and from different eras keeps our audience's toes tapping. From "Under the Boardwalk" to "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)", the CHICKS have the right repertoire mix for you. Sound Whatever the song style, the CHICKAdivas set a high musical standard. All members are experienced singers who have an ear for a good vocal production and blend. The result is a sweet, rich sound. Singers Kym White lends to the CHICKAdivas her beautiful high soprano voice and an excellent ear for harmony. She currently also sings with Da Camera Singers as well as the Madrigal Singers at the University of Alberta, where she recently completed her degree in music. Kym also sang in the U of A's production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" in the spring of 2003. Currently, Kym is working on her Master's degree in Musicology. Elizabeth Mayne contributes to the group a rich soprano that blends well and adds a silky quality to the sound. She grew up in a musical household and began performing at an early age, singing with choirs such as the Eugene Opera Chorus and as a soloist. Elizabeth contributes a terrific sense of fun to the CHICKAdivas and feels the group suits her light-hearted approach to music and performance. She is also a visual artist who creates stunning collages. Regina Landeck is an experienced soloist and choir singer. She has studied voice in her native Germany and in Canada, and has a flexible, dramatic mezzo-soprano voice. She shares with the CHICKAdivas her expertise in staging, which comes from performing as a tango singer & dancer, a choir soloist, and in her own one-woman show. When she is not singing, she works as a freelance translator and developer of educational materials. In her spare-time, she is completing a Master's degree in translation. Marion McFall has had an interest in music from a very early age. She has contributed her clear mezzo-soprano to a variety of choirs, among them the University of Alberta's Madrigal Singers, and Da Camera Singers, and has worked as a soloist. Her good ear and excellent sense of harmony contribute immensely to the vocal product of the CHICKAdivas. Marion's daytime activities include running her own graphic design and voice-over business. As the CHICKS' in-house designer, she created the cover for our debut CD "CHICK Us Out!". Guylaine Lefebvre-Maunder is the alto that keeps the CHICKAdivas grounded. She has a music degree and completed her education degree at the University of Alberta in 2003. In addition to her busy life as a mother of three, she has now entered the world of full-time teachers in the French-immersion school system. Guylaine's staging ideas add an exciting dimension to the performance scope of the group. Her smooth alto voice rounds off the CHICKAdivas' sound and adds to it a velvety touch.
