Eventually I grew up and left Winnsboro, not by train unfortunately, but still I was able to follow that fascination and experience the freedom that as child could only be imagined by the sounds of the train. And so I chose "This Train" as the title song for the CD. To a large extent, it is a reflection of my own musical journey--one made through changing landscapes as evidenced by the diversity of these songs--and certainly made richer by the players and singers I have been privileged to meet along the way, many who are on these recordings.
I want to thank Danny Harlow for all he did on this project. In short, it would not have happened without him. Besides his many talents in the studio, his friendship and support were invaluable. I also want to express my appreciation for the great musicians who played and sang on this project. They have been an inspiration. To have family and friends, heroes and teachers, all together on the same CD, is special, and it does me proud.
Now, I hope you enjoy "This Train"
Reviews: "Vollie McKenzie offers a collective hymn of invitation to his musical roots. His musical testimony is deep and moving. Here, Vollie serves a series of 16 sermonettes of western swing, gospel, oldtime music and parables for our ears and hearts to savor. Let's sing the fourth stanza one more time."

A versatile musician, a sensitive gifted song-writer... it all adds up to 6'7" of entertainment pleasure.
-Roger Bellow/Flying Fish Recording Artist
A true original, appealing to young and old alike... with versatility rarely seen in a solo performer; mixing a variety of traditional styles with some fine compositions of his own.
-Jimmy Riddle, Co-producer/Columbia House Concerts
Its all there; style, technique, understanding, and a real feel for the music. A delightful mix from all over the map...standards, country, folk, and some nicely crafted originals. More Vollie McKenzie please!!
