Cathy Pino is a singer-songwriter currently based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She got her first big break at the tender age of 10 when she was invited to play at a local church ice cream social in her hometown of Indiana, PA. Donning her favorite red checkered skirt and her coolest red knit knee-highs, she grabbed her ax and set out to win the hearts of ice cream consuming critics and music lovers alike. When her covers of "Country Roads" and "This Land is Your Land" met with approval, she knew she'd found her calling: The life of a performing artist was the life for her!
These days, Cathy has long since outgrown that awesome checkered skirt, and only breaks out those knee-highs for special occasions. But her love of writing and music lives on. After earning a BA in English education from Concordia College in Ann Arbor, MI, she took a teaching job in Milwaukee, then moved on to a short stint as a missionary, and a slightly longer stint as an administrative assistant at a Christian youth ministry organization called Youth Encounter. However, the irrestistable call of the road summoned her back to the world of music, and in 1995 she and some friends formed the band Fat and Happy, and soon after released their one and only album, "Sunday Every Day." (See also Fat And Happy on CDBaby!) Fat And Happy toured for about 5 years, playing venues ranging from coffeehouses to national youth gatherings and music festivals. In 2000, when the rest of the band decided to pursue different career paths, Cathy forged on as a solo artist. In 2002 she released her first recording, "Rembrandt Lighting," which features the popular "Venus and Mars Overheard, " and "Light of the World," and the slightly less popular (at least with Cathy's mom) "Tunguska (The X Files Song)." Currently Cathy continues to write and tour as a musician, as well as free-lance as a sometime curriculum writer/teacher/missionary and participant in her congregation's worship band. (Whew!) Besides music, Cathy's other passions include boardgames, movies, Ben and Jerry's Chubby Hubby and the TV show "Alias." Faith, family and friends are her greatest influences, and she endeavors to examine, explore and celebrate facets of each in her songs and storytelling. Track List: 1. Ella Shepherd 2. Orphan Girl 3.
