Pastor Dennis A. Meredith
Pastor Dennis A. Meredith, loving father of 3 sons, gained his Bachelor of Arts degree in religion from Sanford University in Birmingham, Alabama. In Birmingham, he served at Mount Zion Baptist Church and Sardis Baptist Church where he met and married his wife, now for over 25 years. Traversing from east to west coast, Pastor Meredith attended graduate school at Golden Gate Theological Seminary, while serving as pastor of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, California. While in California, he began to hone his ministerial and musical crafts. He frequently attended Edwin Hawkins Music and Arts Seminar and Love Fellowship Conference, where he served on the Board of Directors for 10 years as treasurer.
Reverend Meredith also has history with the late great gospel legend James Cleveland as he partnered in the Gospel Music Workshop of America and has worked with talent such as Charles Nicks. He has also appeared in the opening line up for artists such as Shirley Caesar, Melba Moore, and Stephanie Mills. In the spring of 1994, Pastor Meredith and his family moved to Atlanta, where he took the reigns as Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Since becoming Pastor of Tabernacle, Reverend Meredith has led in community development by acquiring and restoring over 13 parcels of blighted property in the Old Fourth Ward. For such endeavors, he received the 2004 Local Hero Award, sponsored by Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative.
Pastor Meredith has also co-partnered with his wife Lydia Meredith to combat welfare dependency and illiteracy in the neighborhood by establishing Beacon of Hope, a nationally accredited early childhood and school age education program -- providing a holistic approach to child development by servicing the entire family through programs for youth and adult leadership, education, training; employment; entrepreneurship; homeownership; and family advocacy. Pastor Meredith, in another realm of ministry, has spearheaded the “Stop the Hate†campaign, which theoretically places emphasis on stopping self-hate by spiritually and personally affirming “all†persons regardless of race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic background, and/or physical ability -- in hopes of improving socio-economics in our communities and reducing destructive behaviors that lead to crime, suicide, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
