The powerful, yet sublime voice of Ohio native Loretta Williams Gurnell is receiving the benefits of living a life before Christ that are full of grace and mercy. True to her gospel upbringing, Loretta has developed and maintained a truly magnificent voice and stage presence that can only be described as inspirational. Whether Loretta is singing an original song or performing a classic rendition, her spirit-filled delivery embraces her audience.
Although life experiences and some setbacks could have destroyed Loretta’s witness, she strived daily to press through until her change came. According to Loretta, “Victory is sweeter than defeat.†By God positioning Loretta as a featured psalmist, she’s been blessed to performed with Canaan Missionary Baptist Church; Central State University Chorus; the Miss Ohio Black Pageant; the Little John Brothers; Pastor Larry Coleman and the Ohio Delegation Choir; Lamar Campbell and Spirit of Praise; Doug Toles; Michael Cunningham and the Ohio Baptist General Convention Choir; and By HIS Grace. Moving from Ohio to Texas did not stop Loretta’s blessings or mission to sing songs that inspire, encourage and remind souls to never give up. Loretta learned early on that obedience is better than sacrifice. Because of her obedience, God has positioned Loretta to work with some of the industry’s finest gospel artists and producers through song, spoken and written expressions. Such talents include, the late Brenda Waters, Shirley Joiner, Pastor Shirley Ceasar, Evangelist Kathy Bynum, Alvin Slaughter, Michael Pickett, Celebration Live recording of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, Inc., Theola Booker, Marcus Dawson, Kevin Graves, Gerard Hairston, Byron Williams and Eddie Hall. To add to Loretta’s repertoire, she set the atmosphere through song for Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie to share the Word of God at the 47th National Convention of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada. Loretta also sung a hymn of praise during the National Social Action Luncheon where Secretary of Education, Rod Paige was the keynote speaker. Furthermore, Loretta is an accomplished actor who starred in the hit play “Crowns†at the Ensemble Theater. Playing the role of Velma, she received rave reviews in The Houston Chronicle and The Houston Press. In a heart-changing and soulful performance, Loretta captivated her audience as Sis. Taylor in the play “When Mama Prays†at the Wortham Theatre, Harvest Time Church and St. Agnes Baptist Church. Finally, Loretta has appeared on Day Star’s Houston Celebration, and as the guest psalmist for workshops and conferences throughout the southern and mid-west regions. Loretta's aims are to never compromise her position in Christ, and always be a light and not a thorn while letting people know they are never alone even when it hurts.
