Sissy Peoples - Singer, Songwriter, Actress and Comedian was born in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up singing in the Baptist Church and has been a true songstress since the age of 8.
Sissy studied under the tutelage of some of the world's most esteemed musical coaches. During the mid 70's, Sissy's talents were unveiled by the phenomenal "Natalie Cole". Sissy enjoyed a ten-year junket with Natalie Cole & Company. Sissy toured internationally and nationally with Natalie Cole & Company. "VARIETY" - The Hollywood Report, September 4, 1980 writes of the NATALIE COLE - PEACHES & HERB Concert at the Los Angeles Amphitheatre "...notable exceptions were singers YASMIN "SISSY" PEOPLES and Anita Anderson's beautiful tonal exercises which were used as an extended intro on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and other numbers..." Sissy has had an illustrious singing career, and is known in the industry. She has sung with such notables as ROD STEWART, JEFFREY OSBORNE, JOHNNY MATHIS, DIANA ROSS, RAY CHARLES, JAMES INGRAM, PEABO BRYSON, PATTIE LABELLE, TAKA BOOM, CHAKA KHAN, DEBBIE GIBSON, and of course, NATALIE COLE. Sissy's gospel tinged voice can be heard as a background vocalist on many of the recordings of the artists previously mentioned, as well as many others. Sissy's talents led to opportunities to travel throughout the world. She has traveled abroad to Japan, Germany, Sweden, Australia, as well as various cities and states in the United States. Sissy has made appearances on various Television Music Specials: Soul Train; Don Kirshner's Rock Concert; The Merv Griffin Show; The Midnight Special; American Bandstand; The Mike Douglas Show; Johnny Carson; The Grammy Awards; and The Arsenio Hall Show, just to name a few! Even as an established R&B artist, Sissy has a distinguished career in the Gospel industry. While residing in California, she was a member of the West Angeles Church of God, and was a member of the West Angeles Church of God Mass Choir. She has had the opportunity to work under the direction of the renowned James Cleveland, and participated in the many of his workshops. She was privileged to sing with his Award-winning Group, The Gospel Messengers, before his untimely demise. Sissy's acting experience includes performing as an outstanding cast member of the Off-Broadway production "GOSPEL IS...!", which was written and produced by Vy Higginsen, the creator and producer of the Off-Broadway Gospel Musical "Mama, I Want To Sing". Sissy's season has finally come around! Her Gospel CD, entitled "Breakin' Of Day" (with the title cut being co-written by Sissy) is released, under the New Independent Gospel Record Label, "SOUL SEZ RECORDS, INC", and this CD is sure to be a HIT! The CD encompasses various styles of music - a little something for everyone -- You'll hear in Sissy's soulful vocals, some funk, some upbeat and even some home-down sounds; there's also some reggae for the "Islands" crew, some rearranged traditional songs, and there's some cross-over too!
