Amazing Hip Hop
Direct from Virginia’s capital city comes some of the earliest underground rap records. The UrbanBeat Label started in 1985. Intent on recording the best the streets had to offer. The record spans the east coast style of straight beats and lyrics to , west coast funk ala P-Funk. Like the kids of the two coasts, they were hearing the same basics of black radio and the culture of spinning old dusty records. So it was no surprise that the artists here would emulate those same sounds and incorporate them into the Rich-Town sound. There is a ghetto conscious vibe on most of these songs. This can be attributed to the times. Remember the 80’s was the beginning of the “Crack†influence of the urban streets. UrbanBeat Records was intent on bringing out positive messages and helping out the community. This CD is a time capsule. A reminder of raps beginnings and of it’s hopes and dreams.
