Derrick Ellis started singing at Mt.Zion Baptist Church,in Knoxville, Tennessee when he was a child of eight. Since he was the only child permitted to sing, this was viewed as quite an accomplishment. The many sounds of expression in music touched him deeply God led Derrick to fulfill his desire to sing,write,and produce the songs he heard and felt in his heart.
Later,he become a principal vocalist in Austin East High School Choir and played the leading role Jim in Knoxville's All City Chorus Prodution of the Broadway musical Big River.The role won him much critical acclaim
In 1990 Mr. Ellis was named First Place winner of the Knoxville Area Youth Talent Contest,the Grand Award Winner of the Tennessee Valley Fair Regional Youth Talent Contest and the Third Sweepstakes Winner in the Youth Talent Intrenational Contest held in Memphis, Tennessee. To this date, Mr.Ellis is the only person from Knoxville who has placed at the International Contest in over a decade.
Mr.Ellis is a season veteran singer with with a voice that is very versatile, strong,smooth, and professional.His Talent skills are unmatched when it comes to studio recording,He can just about sound like any male singer he listen to.This kind talent has able Mr.Ellis to gain valuble professional recording studio time skills as a vocalist.
