Since forming in January of 2000, Contents Under Pressure has gained a solid live show fan base and enjoyed the local success of their EP, 5 Premium Cuts. The CD's first single “Throw Your Hands†was featured on the Sacramento Rocks VII (2000) compilation produced by Sacramento radio station 98 Rock. The disk also features the song “Creation†which has quickly become a fan favorite at live shows.
Also nominated for a 2001 Sacramento Music Award (SAMMIE) in the best of Rap/Hip-Hop category, Contents Under Pressure has been recognized by Sacramento audiences as one of the hottest new acts in a scorching scene. February 2002 saw the release of their first full length self titled CD, and the band was also the featured artist of the month in Sacramento's popular local music magazine RANT.
Throughout 2002 Contents Under Pressure has become a must see live band who continually draw sell out crowds at Sacramento's premier clubs, Scratch 8 and The Boardwalk. The band will be finishing off a stellar year by having their cover of RUN DMC's “Christmas in Hollis†featured on 98 Rock's Christmas benefit CD.
Musically, the band's sound revolves around the talented rhythm section of Slade Anderson, one of the areas best drummers, and Jeremiah Dickey, who's strong bass grooves have become a key building block in the band's new material. Steve Northam delivers rapid-fire, conscious hip-hop vocals that convey a heartfelt underground feel. Providing the bands hard driving guitar grooves is Jeff Dyer and Josh Bailey. Josh also provides contributing vocals which have become a focus of the groups evolving sound. The finishing touches are provided by Chris aka DJ Dubstyle. Dubstyle's samples and turntable work are essential to the new songs and add another dimension to the reworked older material.
