The MPs' method is to mess with peoples' minds through their choice of unusual samples - King Crimson, Camper Van Beethoven, and Tori Amos just to name a few - and their irreverent, twisted lyrics that teem with sexual overtones and double entendres.
The group, comprised of rappers K2 (that's K-squared) and The Noble Def G, and augmented by bass player Adam Lodge, drummer Adam Lipsky, and guitarist Jeff Ranney, have taken their show up and down the West Coast, into the heart of Texas, and across Western Canada.
K2's alter-ego is Keith Knight, the writer and illustrator of the nationally syndicatd comic strip The K Chronicles, which runs in more than a dozen newspapers nationally, and can be read weekly at Salon.com. A second strip, (th)Ink, started running in 2003. Keith has also done illustration work for Disney, Nickelodeon, Men's Health Magazine, and ESPN.
Some notable successes for the band include getting a song on the Don Johnson TV show Nash Bridges and landing a slot at Kamp KOME, a huge radio station-sponsored concert in San Jose that drew over 22,000 people. Audiences can't seem to get enough of their on-stage acrobatics and verbal gymnastics, and the band is starting to attract the attention of major labels.
Their self-released debut CD, "Twist the Nob", was selected one of 1997's 10 Best albums by the San Jose Metro, and one of the Top 100 Indie Releases of the year by PULSE! Magazine (Tower Records' in-store publication). They've released a live disc entitled Dead Hippie Bootleg, and their newest studio release, Bohemian Rap CD, is available now from CDBaby.com. Bohemian Rap CD has been nominated for a California Music Award as Outstanding Rap Album. They are currently self-published, but plan to shop their CD to majors and independent labels.
