Rick Rayburn's music career started in elementary school when he would practice Beatles songs on an old ukulele his uncle had given him. Rick would run home at lunch, practice a Beatles song he had figured out, then run back to school.
Rick eventually got a guitar and had his first band at age 13. For years Rick had bands that toured extensively throughout the Midwest performing in clubs, concerts, radio, and television. In fact, in 1981, his band "Fusion" was the headline act for the St.Louis Emmy Award winning show "Night Moves." In 1988 Rick struck out on his own as a solo artist and was one of the first "one man bands" that utilized digital / midi recording technology to sound like a full band. Also during this time his humorous song parodies (poking fun at among other things...political campaigns and the savings and loan scandal) were a part of Bruce Bradley and Anne Keefe's popular afternoon radio show on KMOX, the #1 radio station in St.Louis. By the end of the '90's Rick decided to concentrate more on original music. In 2001 Rick released his first instrumental acoustic guitar CD, "Frogs & Dogs," on Shemenco Records. One day Rick's daughter, Emily, asked why he never wrote any songs for kids, so Rick decided to do his first children's CD. "Imagination Room," a CD featuring all original children's songs was released in 2002, followed by "Colors" in 2004. Today Rick Rayburn performs in concert for children and grownups alike at schools, colleges, libraries, bookstores, house concerts, and special events.
