‘K'RIYAH’….call and response chant
This CD blends acoustic guitar, piano, upright bass and world percussion with rich vocal harmonies to accompany the listener through the pace of the chant and take them on a journey. The tracks on this CD can be meditative but some also contain a strong rhythmic presence that wakes you up. The CD contains translation, transliteration and the chant in Hebrew. The chant is simply a springboard into the power of sound and intention and is accessible no matter what path of spirituality you walk. There is also a Rumi poem translated by Coleman Barks put to melody and music and done as a mantra as well as a collage of field recordings from around the world. Jacqueline Westhead is a musician and facilitator who travels nationally and abroad bringing her diverse blend of workshops in expressive voice, movement and Hebrew chant. She is one of the pioneers of the Hebrew call and response movement and brings her experiences with many great artists and teachers in Kirtan (Sanskrit devotional call and response chant) and the insights of devotional practice to this form . Her focus is on the interplay of breath, rhythm, intention and the power of the human voice to open each of us to ourselves, others and the Divine within. “Jacqueline Westhead’s music comes from the deep wellspring of heart, manifesting in her collection of Hebrew chants. Entitled K’riyah, which translates “To Cry Out,†the collection clearly shows the power of chant. There is a quality of mindfulness on the CD, a feeling of immediacy and intention with her work. Spearheading the “Hebrew call-and-response chant†movement, Jacqueline’s work shines; she truly manifests the beauty and the power of the Hebrew language.†-Yoga Chicago Check out the artist's website: http://www.soundbodywisdom.com Track List: 1.
