What others say about Yoga Nidra
"A beautiful deep musical flow into the Heart Ocean" ~Krishna Das~ "I play Ruben's "Yoga Nidra" often during sessions at my studio and in my home. The music promotes a sense of mindfulness and encourages an atmosphere of peace. Whether I am enjoying a cup of tea or teaching a large group class, this music is bliss." ~Darlene Mars~ Harmony House Yoga , Davie, FL "I listen to "Yoga Nidra" every morning. It grounds me without intruding into my personal space." ~Jody Myers~ Director Atlantic Yoga Teacher Training, Halifax, Nova Scotia About Ruben As a young boy, Ruben experienced an abiding desire to see God. He would gaze upon rooftops of tall buildings waiting for God to appear. At home, the son of a classically trained musician, Ruben lived surrounded by a number of his father's instruments including piano, guitar, trumpet and saxophone. Some of his earliest memories are of his father randomly choosing an instrument and effortlessly improvising beautiful music. Following his father's lead, Ruben began to sit at the piano and improvise. He discovered that playing the same few notes over and over again made him feel good. He tuned into the sounds and sensations he was having and called the experience "going to heaven". He was six years old. At fourteen, following his desire to see God, Ruben entered a Roman Catholic Seminary and studied there for six years. In a stone chapel, every morning and evening for six years, Ruben participated in Gregorian Chanting with 300 other seminarians. This experience forever influenced his relationship to music. A few years later, Ruben bought a bamboo flute and began the practice of playing one long note while focusing on the sound. In this way, he would drift into a state of deep meditation. One day, Ruben felt like using the flute to express the passion and playfulness that he was experiencing. To his surprise, he began to compose as he played; it was as though each note "knew" the order in which it was to come into being. From that day forward, music has flowed through Ruben. Ruben's search to see God led him to the practice of Yoga. For sixteen years he lived in a yoga ashram (community). Two of those years were spent living in India. "Through Yoga", Ruben says, "I learned to see God within myself and others." In 1980, Ruben was invited to compose and record the soundtrack for a multi-media documentary about the life of Swami Muktananda. Requests for his music lead Ruben to release the sound track of this documentary as his first album. He called the album Arati. Ruben was delighted to hear from his music distributor that Yoga communities from all over the world were requesting his music. In 1993, Ruben left the ashram guided by his inner wisdom to put all he had learned into practice. He married and moved to New York City where he lives with his wife, Adrienne, works as a registered nurse, composes music, and practices seeing God in everyone.
