These two couples have been playing Christian music together for many years, and their strong relationship creates a unity of heart and purpose. Lorie and Lisa are the songwriters. Lorie does most of the orchestration and arranging with “seasoning†from the others. Both Lisa and Lorie play keyboards. Tom is their drummer and Eric plays percussion, trombone and “toys.†His “toys†consist of instruments that he has collected from different parts of the world and add a fun flavor that you can’t miss.
Corey Wadsworth of Sound of Light Recording Studio engineered this album. Corey is more than an engineer on this project – his engineering is the other “instrument†in the band. You will find that his sensitivity in building sound effects is phenomenal by adding touches that instruments alone couldn’t convey. His mixing also helped portray what our hearts wanted to say.
Davin Hanson (you can see more of his art at http://davinsart.com) is the artist on the CD and the cover. He so accurately portrayed the heart of the music. His portrait of a house with things of the heart dancing above it refers to a quiet little 24-hour worship/prayer center hidden away in obscurity in Idaho. This is the place where most of the songs were born, which gives the music such a strong sense of God’s Peace, Wonderment, and Creativity.
This album is mostly instrumental, which is a transformation for Tom, Lisa, Eric and Lorie. You see, their primary venue was lyrical worship leading in various churches (which they still do to some extent). But God began to touch their hearts to use music without lyrics with symphonies of instruments to paint musical pictures of God’s wonderful love and purposes. So to them – this album IS worship and near to their hearts.
Some of this album has to do with emotional healing. The Jones and Swishers walked through some “life fires†that caused them to call out to Jesus to heal and make them whole again. The wide range of styles and themes, with each song so different from the others, signifies the many different ways God resolved conflicts in their lives. In addition, several of the guest artists on the album had “lost heart†and this project, in part, helped to encourage them to go forward in their hearts’ desires. Tom, Lisa, Eric and Lorie are very “real†– no holds barred typed of people. If you are in need of healing – there are some songs that will touch your heart and help you to get real with God and find your hope in Him.
We hope that you will enjoy this album and that it will take you to places where your life is hidden in God – under the shelter of His wings where you can rest. If you would like to know more about Things Above, visit their web site at www.thethingsabove.com.
