Dan Sullivan started playing guitar at eleven years old. He had a knack for arranging, beginning by setting up old cassette recorders and overdubbing parts just to see how different ideas could fit together. He played in bands in Minneapolis as a college student and recorded a solo collection of original songs after graduation. He took a run at a few musical adventures in Southern California and eventually settled in the Midwest, where he honed his craft as a guitarist playing country, some rock and blues in major clubs between Chicago and Milwaukee.
But his love has always been writing and arranging. And instrumental music - the creating of soundscapes and atmospheres - remained a hidden passion. Voyages draws on a love of electric and acoustic guitar, influences of smooth jazz, and occasional invasions of cinematic orchestration. Dan's influences include the incomparable Phil Keaggy, both in layered acoustic textures and melodic electric solos. At other times one can hear traces of Larry Carlton in the guitar work, as well as the country flavored guitar gurus like Albert Lee, Brad Paisley or the Hellecasters. He also attributes his musical imagination to the influence of keyboardist and producer Michael Omartian and multi talented artist Dan Fogelberg.
