Austin's Longing for Orpheus imbues ethereal soundscapes with multicultural ambience. Gentle ethnic flourishes and steady, tribal beats will transport the listener to the exotic locale of their choice. One listen and you'll be longing for more.

Album

The fifteen songs that compose the first Longing for Orpheus album feature layered synthesizers and piano, accented with the human voice and Irish whistles. The styles range from Celtic New Age (Athar), to Ambient (Reflect), to Neo-Classical (Release and the Sonata for Night cycle), to Tolkien-influenced epic (Valinor). Skye can be enjoyed as background music, providing a relaxing and soulful soundtrack to your daily life, or as a cathartic escape - an exploration of our shared search for (and creation of) purpose and meaning.

Project

Longing for Orpheus, in both name and action, represents the search for beauty through music. While the project has had one member (Derek Smootz) thus far, collaborations with other, talented vocalists are on the horizon. See the Longing for Orpheus website for more biographical information.

Message

While there is value in listening to music simply for its own sake, the best art offers layers of meaning. Longing for Orpheus has high aspirations - to promote a message that, while simple, can improve the quality of all our lives if taken to heart:

Live with Passion.
