Barely Standing is a female-fronted rock band that has been playing Chicago area venues since October, 2002.

Their CD debut features eight original songs plus an edgier live recording of one of their songs.

Barely Standing rocks hard, sounding like a girl fronted Foo Fighters or classic Zeppelin.

Most of the songs were co-written by Stevie Conlon, a transgendered woman who is the band's 12 string bassist and founder.

Two of the songs-"Traces" and "Grand Canyon," embrace the theme of loss.

Although their genesis is personal and tragic, their messages have resonated with the band's fans, and particularly hit home at an annual benefit to support City of Chicago police officers and their families that the band has played at for the past few years.

Terri Dempsey, the band's lead vocalist, co-authored these songs.

The CD features prior vocalist Sarah Goley and was recorded between February and May of 2003.

Previously, Terri had been the lead singer for the Chicago band "Urban Rain," another Chicago band featuring original material.

Michael Tomasso, the band's lead guitarist, co-wrote half of the material, along with Sarah (and Stevie).

Before joining Barely Standing, Michael was the lead guitarist for the Chicago area bands "Prizm" and "Cry Out Loud" and recorded several CDs of original material with those groups.

Jack Manzella, keyboards and percussion and Gordon Makely, drums are also featured on the recording.

Barely Standing has since added the outstanding keyboardist and vocalist Brenda Busboom and the hard-hitting Mark Patchel on drums who were both previously members of several Chicago area original bands.

Brenda has a great voice and harmonizes well with Terri, adding a new dimension to the band.

Barely Standing has already developed quite a reputation.

In March, 2002 Barely Standing was the winner in the rock band category of Chicago's Suburban Nite Life Magazine's recent "Best of Burbs" annual readers' poll and this past Spring it placed Third in the Best Rock Band category and Second in the Best Heavy Rock Band category as well.

The CD was self-produced and was recorded at Fun@440Hz Studios in Elmhurst.
