Charade was formed in 1989 by John Abatecola, Robert Abatecola, Tim Larson, and Catherine Olthof.
Charade's first show was played on January 9, 1990. Within two weeks, they were taped at DeAnza College for a 30 minute television show which aired on the college's cable channel. Charade played in most of the major south bay clubs between 1990 and 1994, including opening shows for Foghat and Gary Richrath (of R.E.O. Speedwagon) in 1990. Tim Larson left the band in early 1991. He was eventually replaced by Shawn Currin in late 1991, after the band tried working with two other bassists. Catherine Olthof left the band in mid 1992 and was replaced by Lisa Sahara later that year. After Charade's last show in 1994, the band members went their separate ways. In November of 1996, Robert Abatecola, John Abatecola, and Shawn Currin completed production on this 15 song CD which features music from Charade's demo tapes, including a song that was in the works when Catherine left in 1992, and two other songs that were being recorded when the band broke up in 1994.
