Six years and two lineup changes later, Clint and Jon find themselves releasing their first studio album. The self produced, twelve track eponymous album resurrects alternative music from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Fans and reviewers of the disc have likened the sound to a more accessible Pixies with Westerbergian overtones. Clint and Jon place a strong emphasis on their lyrical content and musical styles not intentionally meaning to stand far apart from the crowd, but achieving this effect nonetheless. John Dillinger Died For You's sound is unique, intelligent and energetic, while avoiding the pretentiousness and predictability of their contemporaries.
The twelve songs that make up the new album were recorded at 3rd Stone Productions in Decatur, Illinois by Millikin University's Professor of Commercial Music, Dr. Dave Burdick. Recorded in October of 2003, production was wrapped in January of 2004, and the finished product became available on February 2nd, 2004.
John Dillinger Died For You has taken the Do-It-Yourself approach to management and promotion as well as the creation and maintenance of their website http://www.johndillingerdiedforyou.com. The boys are heavily involved in all aspects of the band not because they have chosen to, but because this is their only real option living in the Midwest.
