We are in the process of making new t-shirts, stickers, and posters--awaiting the arrival of a new child.
The moments in life when your hard work pays off with something tangible are really awesome. I always look at a new album as a musical chapter in our lives.
We are very proud of this album.
I think you always want to focus on your most recent work but this is by far the most excited I've been. We threw out some of the old formulas we had for writing and recording music and I think it worked. Steve Wright did a fantastic job and you'd be hard pressed to find a better young producer around. We combined some of the things we've learned from Mitch Allen with Steve's approach and added in some new ideas of our own(Congratulations Mitch and Steve, they now have gold albums for SR-71).
This is the studio album we always wanted to make. There's more production, feel, and attitude. I think this album will open another door to the way we write music. I'm actually excited to start on the next one but first thing's first.
Now we gear up to support this album, take our live show up a notch and expand in all directions. It's a challenge to ourselves. I don't think i'll ever get tired of that. When i do is when i die.
Really believing in the music you play is a magical feeling. It doesn't matter what the critics think, they can't touch that. That's the goal, to create a place that no one can fuck with. We ALL need that from time to time.
I know i do.
This album is not only for us but for the people who inspire us and keep us motivated. Some artists look at their music as personal but I feel the opposite--it's everything laid out on the table. Take it or leave it.
I'm grateful to be in a position where some people will be moved by our music, and some critics will say we suck. It's a big world and people will say both, the more the merrier I say. I don't know when this will all stop but i know it won't last forever. I'm having too much fun to think about that now.
We hope you enjoy "Nothing But Sky". We can't control that, nor would we want to. It has much to do with you who is reading this rambling right now. When we're weak you pick us up and we can only hope to do the same for you.
I think that music in it's purest form transcends notes and melodies and becomes a feeling. That's a drug i'll always be strung out on. It's looking out in the crowd and knowing you're thinking the same thing we are--NO ONE can fuck with that.
The last chapter of this will be written shortly after the CD release party. We hope you can make it but if not, we know you are there in spirit. With the Spring comes a rebirth for everyone, take advantage of it.
Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy the new album." Dave Tieff -Laughing Colors - April, 2001
