Red Velvet Revolution

Come for the rock. Stay for the roll.

From raging political punk to ear-bleeding ballads, this Toronto-based band sets the stage afire with their unique blend of "freight-train folk punk rock." Songs about love, politics, travelling, sex, death (and everything else that drives a man to drink) grace their newly released CD "bring it on," recorded at the Gas Station Studio with drumming guru Don Kerr (formerly of the Rheostatics and currently on tour with Ron Sexsmith). This hard-hitting four piece band challenges the rock n' roll establishment with their honest, straight forward lyrics and powerfully energetic live show appearances.

With principal lyricist J "Jota" Hogan on screaming lead guitar, vocals and occasional tambourine, Tim Freeman lays down the bass line and hard rock vocals while lanky Dutchman Lukas Vos sets the rhythms on acoustic and electric guitar, vocals and most recently on harmonica. Pounding away on drums is Doug
Newton, whose intense energy levels, trusty Rocktagon cymbal and standard "kit dismissal" keep the show pumping. The amazing versatility of this band is not only displayed by their wide variety of musical influences, but also by their diverse instrumental talent, as shown by Freeman and Vos' frequent instrument swapping during their live shows. Newton has also proven himself to be equally proficient on both vocals and acoustic guitar, both in live shows and by his original composition of the bonus track on "bring it on."

RVR cites influences everywhere from The Rolling Stones to The Pogues, and a myriad of musical styles can be heard throughout the album. A current fan favourite is RVR's hard rock version of "Dead Flowers" by the Stones.

Upcoming and previous venues include The gladstone, The Black Swan, Sneaky Dee's, Clinton's, Rancho Relaxo, The Q-Bar, The Circus Room, the El Mocambo, and Cervejeria. CD's are now available at Sam's, Soundscapes, Paradise Bound and other retailers around Toronto as well as The Orange Monkey in Waterloo and Encore Records in Kitchener, Ontario.
