Six years in the making local Wellington metallers Shakhan have just
released their debut
EP In The Zone. Deeply immersed in the scene from a young age of 15, Shakhan
have
been influenced and shaped by a wide selection of artists ranging from
devastating yet
melodic composers to classic eighties thrash metal bands.

Melodic and danceable without sacrificing rhythmic intensity and roughness,
Shakhan
create a groove based sound while still keeping true to the conventions and
unique
qualities of metal. Keeping it real and at the same time pushing the sound
to a new
dimension.

Uplifting and positive, they enhance a dynamic new angle on the metal sound,
their style
is a mixture of brutal grooves, charging guitar riffs, deep driving bass
lines and harsh
roughneck vocals.

>From the very beginning (they still remain humble and down to earth) as a
high school
band in Wellington, Shakhan emulated such groups as Metallica, Carcass,
Anthrax and
Sepultura. They have worked hard and diligently for the last six years
towards the
forefront of the New Zealand Metal scene.

Performing regularly since 1997, Shakhan have played a slew of gigs ranging
from 'The
Smokefree Rockquest' (Regional Finalists in 1997), 'The Battle of the
Bands', 'Eruption
01' and numerous nights around town at Indigo, Valve and The James Cabaret.

They have played with the likes of Sadius Fiend, Brubeck, Blake, Falciform,
Product,
Sticky Filth, Backyard Burial, Monsterworks, Saidaya, 8 Foot Sativa, Royal
Rumble and
more.

Recording credits to Shakhan's name include tracks on 'Eruption vol: 1' (A
Nationwide
release) and 'Gowned and Bagged' (A local youth music collection). They have
just
released a limited run their long awaited and critically heralded EP 'IN THE
ZONE', five
tracks of next level, uplifting metal mayhem. 'IN THE ZONE' was produced by
Shakhan
and recorded and mixed by Mike Gibson at Inca Productions.

Shakhan have had material reviewed and been featured in VIBE magazine and
'The
Package'. They have also been interviewed on and been featured on
