Robin uses his five string bass to the limit with dazzling fills and solos and on some songs also plays keyboard pedals. JJ's versatile playing allows him to play all the songs as well as they can possibly be played from soft, slow and quiet parts to pounding the drums at the speed of sound and with the brutal force of a sledge hammer - and always with unwavering tempo! Finding JJ was certainly a blessing for SilverSteel. Prior to JJ, Marc and Robin had searched long and hard for the right drummer. The only drawback was that because he was so good he was in demand and had a really hectic schedule which meant it was hard to rehearse. Nevertheless in June 2004 the band recorded over 30 original songs. Many were played for the first time and recorded on the same day.
The talent and versatilty of all the players really helps to create the musical magic and sparkle that shines through on every single song. There is no "filler material". Each song rocks from the slower more melodic songs with classical intros right through to the heaviest fastest songs. The band performed several gigs in Los Angeles and got a phenomenal response. Marcus says he feels he has met his musical soul mates with Rob & JJ. "When we play you just feel electricity in the air".
Marcus moved to Los Angeles to form SilverSteel. He was born in New York City but raised in London, England. He eventually moved back to New York but could not find the right musicians in either London or New York to pursue his musical ambitions. Finally Marcus moved to Los Angeles where he quickly met up with Hollywood native Rob in a chance encounter and started working songs up using a drum machine. The excessively long and hard search for a drummer was unbelievable and auditions were like something out of a comedy movie - or perhaps a horror movie and one audition did in fact end with a drunk drummer trying to attack Marc but he ended up landing on his ass instead!
In the end everything worked out when JJ responded to a classified ad in the Los Angels Recycler newspaper. JJ was originally from Argentina but moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career in music. JJ is now a US citizen and has kept busy with session work, tours and projects including recently touring and recording with legendary metal titans "Hirax".
