Formed in the Summer of 2002, SOULBENT is a band determined to bring their gutsy brand of no-bullshit rock to as many ears as humanly possible. They blend modern, nu-metal energy and classic, guitar-rock attitude with a hellacious dose of over-the-top intensity. The resulting sound is raw, gritty, and above all, HEAVY.
The most important ingredient in the SOULBENT sound is their emphasis on tight, focused songwriting. "We try not to stray too far from the core vibe of the song, because you lose too much momentum otherwise," says guitarist/vocalist JC Dwyer. "The simpler, the better," adds drummer Shawn Cray.
An early version of the band was formed by JC and his brother, bassist Dylan Dwyer, when the two lived in South Florida. Initially it was just a side-project, jamming and writing sporadically, but the music soon began to take on a life of its own. Upon relocating to the Pittsburgh area, the brothers immediately enlisted their cousin Shawn to cover drumming duties. The lineup was complete when Shawn brought guitarist Frank Farruggia aboard. The two had built-in chemistry, as they had spent several years as the core of a Pittsburgh area rock band.
Having just finished up their first full length CD, SOULBENT is hard at work bringing their live assault to any stage, anywhere. Not afraid to bust their ass to get their point across, the band will no doubt be making a mark wherever they go, and building their reputation as one of the few rock bands that still does all their own stunts.....
