STREGA was formed in 2003 by Gianfranco Ferri (guitar, lead voice), Conor Bell (drums, vocals), and Robert Messina (bass, vocals). Our different backgrounds strongly influenced the music from the early sessions. British 80's rock and Jazz, blended with classic American 60's and 70's rock and Mediterranean blues/folk, creating a very unique style. The result was a fierce, soulful, and melodic hard rock with a passion for dark blues.
Soon the band started playing the bar, college, and festival scene in the Bay Area gaining a faithful following that kept growing and supporting us as the number of shows increased. Some of the venues include Ireland's 32, Studio Z, Precita Park Urban Youth Festival, Figaro, Mona Lisa, and Gran Caffe` Rulli in San Francisco, Sammy O'Leary's Pub, The Prince Of Wales Pub, College Of San Mateo, Tower Records and The Highlands Festival in San Mateo, Rooster's Roadhouse and John Patrick's in Alameda, The Vibe in Foster City, Bacchanal in South San Francisco, Chris's Club in Vallejo, Portofino and Frontierland Park Festival in Pacifica, and many other clubs, festivals, and campuses.
Since our band is still unsigned and without representation, we invested the funds collected through our live gigs and merchandise sales in our own recording project. With Mat Strickland as our recording engineer at H.I.T. Wall studios in South San Francisco, we recorded our first self titled CD with 10 of our best songs. We are very proud and happy of how it turned out and we always recommend to play it LOUD!
