The debut EP by Boston's talented foursome. "Before You Begin" features four songs by 2 of the band's 3 songwriters (Dave Stoops and Will Kennedy). They cover sonic ground from the thickly produced, "I Can Safely Say," to the edgy pop of, "Upstream." Featuring big atmospheric guitars, sharp production, and well-crafted songs, "Before You Begin" is a strong effort from an up-and-coming group.
The Players: Will Kennedy (vocals, guitar): Will is "the studio guy." An audio engineer and producer, he has spent time working in both Nashville and New York City. Will brings a sense of sonic and songwriting detail to the band. One of The Memory Effect's two Buffalo natives, he performed there with local favorites 100 Iced Animals. In Boston, he was a member of the short-lived experimental pop-rock outfit Turbine. Stoops (vocals, bass): The sound and the fury. Stoops is a low-end rock and roll force. Known locally for his time in Slow Fore, known in his hometown of Buffalo, NY as the leader of the popular Saturn Battery, and known all over for his onstage intensity. He's also a skilled and inventive bassist. Stoops is always making sure The Memory Effect are staying true to the rock. Tim Franklin (vocals, guitar): Inventive thinker, accomplished songwriter, great guitarist, and excellent vocalist. Tim is the latest addition to The Effect, and a fine one at that. Tim's got creative fearlessness and firepower. He formerly hit the local circuit as the front man for Turbine, and the guitarist for the lo-fi group H. You can hear his handiwork live with the band, and on his brilliant full-length solo album, "Hold Still," due in mid-2004. Scott Eisenberg (drums): An accomplished drummer with numerous local and touring credits (The Dubnicks, Dr. Didg, Meghan Toohey, Yoni Gordon and the Goods, Rachel McCartney). He's the rhythmic backbone. Scott's musical approach to drumming, and great ear for arrangements have made him an integral part of the band's sound.
