Formed in August of 2003, The Other Half steadfastly are becoming one of the NJ/NY areas most sought after bands.
Hot on the release of their self-titled debut, The Other Half are continuing to receive rave reviews from friends and new fans alike. Being compared to such bands as Soul Asylum, Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, and Oasis, the four members have crafted their sound into something to be reckoned with. After playing such venues as Maxwell's, Whiskey Bar, Riddles, Willie McBrides, Continental, Rodeo-Ristra, Shannon Lounge, and The Underpass, the band continues to wow live audiences with their raw, high-energy performences. Although twins Dan Graessle (lead vocals and guitar) and Dave Graessle (lead guitar and vocals) are the only biological brothers in The Other Half, Greg Merkle (drums) and Steve Kostyn (bass and vocals) are often asked if they are all brothers. After a few years of writing songs in his home studio Greg decided the time was right to form a band. In June of 2003 Greg posted an ad in Steppin' Out Magazine. Dan and Dave were the first to respond. After the three auditioned their collective songs for one another, they decided to form The Other Half. After fine-tuning ten songs, the three decided it was time to find a bass player. Greg mentioned friend Steve as a possibility. After hearing the songs once at a rehearsal, Steve picked up his bass and began playing along as if he already knew the material and the band was complete. Having supposedly written their first song in the womb, Dan and Dave have literally spent their lives playing music together. Possessing that true rock and roll spirit, they bring the icing to the cake that is The Other Half. Although Greg and Steve may have only been officially friends for past three years, they have remarkably spent the past twenty years hanging out in the same circles and listening to the same bands, which explains their brotherly like camaraderie, especially when it comes time to throw down at a live show. Recorded at Crystal Studios under the direction of engineer Mike Koenig, the band's six song debut truly represents the spirit The Other Half projects in their live performances. From Dan's raw vocals, to Dave's melodic guitar, to Steve and Greg's solid rhythms, The Other Half is truely a band on the rise. The Other Half's songs are so Z100-Top-40-ready, it's ridiculous! These songs are legitimate pop rock gems! Top 40 candidates "I Still Remember," "Little Bit of Something," "She's Alright," and "Better Way" all have that upbeat, hooky feel that NJ and pop legend Bon Jovi masterd. Yes, I went there! Their music reminds me of Bon Jovi and so does Dan's voice! The ballad "Off My Mind" would be a radio hit if it got into the right hands, and I loved "Where Do We Go" because it had a very '80s hair band guitar riff in the intro that reminded me just how talanted they are. The Other Half is a band to look out for because with hooks like these, they'll be a hit with a live crowd very quickly. -Tim Louie, The Aquarian Weekly A+ on the CD. I loved it! - Judy I listened to your CD over and over the whole way home! It sounds great! -Michelleheated up the crowd at Riddles and set the stag the rest of the night. Spo The Other Half heated up the crowd at Riddles and set the stage for the rest of the night. Sporting their brandy new CDs which were going like hot cakes they really did a great job. Check them out, they rock. -TipsyV Productions GREAT JOB!!! I thought the CD was good. I like the 1st song and I think the 3rd or 4th was real good too, but as a whole you guys have a good sound and I look forward to coming out to see you live soon. -David I love the CD. You are the shit. -Denise It's probobaly the best $5 I've ever spent, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. -Dan P. I've had it on repeat for the last three day in my car. -Paul T It's official, I'm a fan of The Other Half's. -Dave I like the first and the last song a lot. I think they have enough of that "catchy tune" quality to carry the band to an expanded CD or another try at the album making process. I also like the overall sound of your band very much. I cant quite think of another band that I am familiar with that I would compare you to but I guess that is good, it helps to form an strong independent identity. - FB Check out the artist's website: http://www.TheOtherHalfOnline.com Track List: 1.
