Free Beer at Exit 80:
One cold night in 1999, some Roslyn, Washington residents gathered in spontaneous musical celebration. A few weeks later, the band Free Beer at Exit 80 emerged to play its first gig. Today, the band continues to create music that is as eclectic as it is energetic. How do we describe it? Free Beer at Exit 80 plays an organic mix of blues, rock, funk, and bluegrass. Melodic, sweet, and dynamic, the sound encourages a musical experience: "Rock-Move-Jam-Groove-Dance-Trip-Run-Skip." Imagine a grassy park where the Grateful Dead was once to play. A guitarist looking for Garcia trips over the blanket of a drummer tapping MMW on his legs while humming a Galactic tune on his lips. From the sky drops a keyboard with some Doors / Santana combo going on, and a bassist with a band called Mindslam in his pocket but Matthews in his ears sees the pile of musicians and says, "Hey, this is kinda groovy." If that's not half enough, then add an acoustic guitar player with Greg Brown and SCI on the brain, a violin player bowing Bloch and Bach, and one more drummer with a Phishy Meters groove in his skull, and figure that they show up with a brown bag of Free Beer! . . . oh yeah, and a truck full of hula-hoopers! That, friends, is Free Beer at Exit 80, bringing the music down from the mountains. We play a mix of original music and adapted cover tunes.
