Skydancer originally formed in 1978 in San Jose, California. From the beginning we tried to meld songs from different musical genres into our own style. We always played material in the jazz/rock/blues idiom and developed a sound to incorporate these influences. From the earliest days a typical set might include songs by The Grateful Dead, Chick Corea, The Allman Brothers Band, Miles Davis, James Cotton, as well as our originals. The band played locally for over twenty years. During that time there were a number of personnel changes but the band philosophy and overall sound stayed consistent. After a hiatus the core members reunited in 2001 and have released the first CD. Having a large amount of material to draw upon the band decided to feature some of their strongest original and cover songs and came up with a double CD. The band members include: Don Andrews-bass and slide guitars, Peter Burchard-drums and vocals, Larry Guernsey-guitars, Richard Simon-keyboards, and Marc Spilka-alto saxophone, flute, and harmonica.
Approximately half the album consists of original songs and half are covers. A glance at the artists covered gives a good indication of the variety of music the band plays. Artists include: Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Luis Bonfe, BB King, Dizzy Gillespie, Steely Dan, Santana, Nat Adderly, and Robert Cray. Track List: 1. Skydancer 2. Povo 3.
