"Dark and Weary World" is the second album from the South Austin Jug Band and their first for Blue Corn Music. This energetic, hard touring outfit has been wowing audiences coast to coast for the last 3 years and has built a huge fan base in their hometown of Austin, where they won the 2005 Austin Music Award for Best Bluegrass Band.
"Dark and Weary World" is a big leap forward from their self-titled first album. Original members James Hyland, Will Dupuy and Willie Pipkin are joined by Dennis Ludiker on mandolin and fiddle and Bryan Beken on fiddle. Both are award winners. In addition to the band's own material, "Dark and Weary World" features songs from Bruce Robison and George and Ira Gershwin. This sort of eclecticism is one reason the band won the "Best New Band" competition at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. The band will be returning this year to the Austin City Limits Festival where they will perform in front of thousands of people from around the country. They'll be hitting the road after that and will stay on the road through 2006. One listen to "Dark and Weary World" and you'll see why publications like Texas Music Magazine and Relix have been singing the praises of the South Austin Jug Band. Track List: 1.
