GRIMEY'S says "Jeff are a band made up of brothers Jamin (drums) and Jake (guitar) Orrall. Jamin also drums for Be Your Own Pet and together the
brothers run the Infinity Cat label. They certainly know how to bring the rock. Thurston Moore is a fan, why not you?"
THE Village Voice- owned NASHVILLE SCENE says "Tempo and career-wise, it's hard to keep up with Jake and Jamin Orrall. The teenaged pair (who are the spawn of acclaimed songwriter Robert Ellis Orrall) run their own multi-media cottage industry (Infinity Cat) and are members of numerous high-speed bands, including Be Your Own Pet, The Sex and Jeff. Jeff, who are headlining, are Jake and Jamin's guitar-drum duo, and their latest, Castle Storm, is punky and art-rockish like a mix of Wire and Sonic Youth on trucker speed.
On Jeff's third album Castle Storm, the brothers tear through 13 self-penned and self-produced songs with the kind of frantic punk rock energy that makes young people jealous and old people nostalgic. Tracks like "Glen Echo" stomp with staccato stops and starts, while "I Don't Need a Tast-T" flirts with a Sabbath drone-riff intro that morphs into quirky pop, then dives into garage rock.
As musicians. they shine. Except for the occasional glockenspiel or keyboard, the only instruments on the album are very loud guitar and drums. It is a testament to their creativity and musicianship that the duo are able to vary their sound from track to track within the confines of such sparse instrumentation."
Josh Preston of BULLZEYE says "This is magic time. It’s like they knew what I was thinking. No other album in future fragile millennia will inflict the kind of psychological malaise as this frighteningly brilliant little nugget of awesome. Do you want to know what I just did? I took 4 gobs of peanut butter, a hammer and a roll of electrical tape and sealed this fucking album in my cd player. This particular capsule of the genius of Jeff is called “Castle Stormâ€. But who cares? It won’t be hard to keep track of this release once you throw all of your other albums away. You won’t even be sad about it. It will feel totally natural. It will feel like being reborn."
THE RAGE says "Castle Storm is "the essence of a highwire live performance made by two guys who were obviously frayed but not frazzled.
Castle Storm is far more representative of Jeff's chaotic live shows, which usually consist of the two brothers tearing each song limb from limb, using punk rock chops and monster metal riffs while baiting the crowd and always teetering on total collapse. Throughout the frenetic collection of songs on Castle Storm the brothers ride that same line between pretentious and profound, and they ride it so hard and so fast that they never look back to see which it was."
