Brian DeMarco's influences belong to a diverse and varied group of artists: low-down blues legends Lightnin' Hopkins and Little Walter Jacobs have shaped DeMarco's tempo and are a catalyst for his lyrical construction while more contemporary artists such as Neil Young and the soulful Kurt Cobain lend modernity to DeMarco's roots. Placed firmly in the singer/songwriter tradition, DeMarco combines guitar, harmonica and a lyrical innocence that reveals truth and beauty within the Romantic aesthetic. Not totally a blues-man and not on the pop-star track to superstardom, DeMarco's songwriting philosophy depends upon an awareness and egolessness to convey its simplicity. Themes as universal as lost-love and coming-of-age are what interest this songwriter- there's nothing too complicated or esoteric about the ideas he has. The songs speak for themselves. They speak from the past, for the present and because of their universality they attempt to achieve what all art does; timelessness.
