Earl Sioson's release of his debut CD The Storm is Coming arrives after a long musical journey - he's been part of the ever-evolving Cleveland music scene as a singer, songwriter and musician since the early 1990s. The music, a soulful expression of themes of joy, confusion and desire offers up an upbeat groove and funky rhythm, and is as intimate as it is eclectic.
His simple melodies and rich harmonies echo the late Jim Croce's easy going style, yet Earl strikes a contemporary chord that's uniquely his own.
The first track Time to get Busy bursts with energy, and the lyrics, while an ode to the past, predict a busy future for the artist and his record label, Plan B.
Earl, who performs vocals, guitars, and keyboards, wrote, produced and mixed the self-released CD in his own studio.
A Long Musical Journey
Earl started out performing as a singer and guitar player for a house art gallery band playing original tunes and improvisations. When the gallery closed down he began jamming with a band rocking out originals and cover tunes.
By the time the mid 1990s came around, he turned to the keyboards and bass in a hip hop act and a performance art group. And, it was about that time when he began to record his original songs with musicians from around town. After incurring thousands of dollars in debt, as a result, he arrived at a crossroad...
Let the music die, or get a job to keep the music playing, in his own time, in his own way. Earl chose "plan b". Now, with a weekly paycheck in hand from BrandMuscle as a software engineer, he channels his earnings into his own record label - Plan B, and he hasn't looked back.
