Being born, bred and quite possibly buttered below the Mason Dixon line most assuredly has it's advantages, as life seems to unfold at a pace all it's own. Nowhere is that more evident than in the music currently emanating from the south. Perhaps that is why Gigi Dover can so aptly be described as southern. A sultry, soulful, southern songstress, who's music blurs the lines between rock and soul while casually flirting with country along the edges. Following two critically accliamed CDs recorded with her first band Rank Outsiders - 'One Man's Trash'/1994 and 'Checkpoint' /1996; a four song EP/1999 - and first solo release'Unpicked Flowers'/2002 - her sophomore effort, self titled'Gigi', is her most distinct and personal collection to date. A concept album if you will, that showcases Gigi's smooth vocals, her gift for melody and lyrical expression, along with stellar musical performances ranging from electric, funky wah guitar, to wurlitzer, to the organic sounds of the sitar, rebab, jimbe and jume-jume. Produced by Tim Coats and Gigi, the 10 tracks feature 8 originals written or co-written by Gigi, the JIm Lauderdale penned "Why", and an emotivley charged version of Bobby Gentry's "Ode to Billy Joe". From the Bottom Line, NYC to Vin Scelsa'a Idiot's Delight, to festivals, countless club dates and openers throughout the southeast - An authenic, no nonsense performer with the captivating presence of a veteran stage rocker combined with a very real-straight-forwardness, Gigi lives up in person to what you hear on record, and then some.
