The name Haunted Pines comes from singer/songwriter Chad Kawamura's take on the Band's 1970 song "Whispering Pines". It reflects a more sinister version of a fragile beauty, something that hangs on to our senses after being satiated by the simple joys of hook, rhythm, and melody; truth - something we hope will carry on through the years with vigor. In that, much of this band's music comes from our take on a variety of influences. Among the big names are Dylan, the Beatles, the Band, Gram Parsons, the Velvet Underground, and Sam Cooke. Add into that some of our more varied influences (the Clash, Mississippi John Hurt, the Black Crowes, the Pixies, Wilco, and the Replacements) and we find ourselves with an expansive palate to work with.

The core of Haunted Pines has always been the exceptional songwriting with which we work as well as the abilities of the musicians to write more for the song. Most notably, we receive comments on lyrics for their clarity, variety, and sly wit, as well as their candor. This is not to mention that we've been slowly building our reputation on our ability to perform these songs live and with execution that carries over into the performance setting, making the music a very tangible experience.
