Clendenen's influences are widely eclectic - from Reggae and world music to Appalachian folk - from 60's psychedelia to new age industrial. He seeks to put words to the random moments in life that one will always remember - to record his thoughts as a soundtrack of his life - to find those tiny things that often go unnoticed. This is the stuff of great art - the melody of meaningful music.
Currently Nate is performing with banjo virtuoso, Robert Mabe who hails from the hills of North Carolina. Robert has toured and recorded with David Via and Larry Keel. In addition, he's also performed with Johnny Cash, Leftover Salmon and the String Cheese Incident to name a few. Their music together is completely original - contemporary yet traditional - progressive yet classic. When they are joined by the full band, drummer/percussionist Curtis Krams and bassist John Nichols bring a distinct jazz/funk/fusion to the mix. No matter what ensemble cast Nate hits the stage with, everyone in the audience is prime for great music.
"Old Soul" features 12 tracks with the full Nate Clendenen Band. Nate Clendenen (guitars, vocals, djembe), Robert Mabe (5-String banjo), Curtis Krams (drums, percussion), John Nichols (bass guitars), Daniel Shores (piano, organ), Eric Oligney (electric lead guitar), Kara Britz (vocals), Jillian Synnott (Bodrahn), and Chris Eiland (bongos). Showcasing several years of Clendenen's songwriting, this project is a completely original, completely independent, completely homegrown release.
"Nate has a vision and it is a good one! He has truly followed in the tradition of great songwriters. His use of melody and rhythm are a breath of fresh air in this prepackaged pop culture that we live in. He has true feeling and connection with his songs and it is a vibe that the audience picks up on from the first note and keeps them captivated until the last. As a performer, Nate has a confident, yet inviting presence that makes every one in the room (whether it's 5 or 5000) feel a connection to what he is doing." - Dan Shores, Producer dBs Sound, Sono Luminous
"The moon shines off the Bay like it would die tomorrow. If I never knew you it would." - Nate Clendenen, Moon Song
"There's war on the television o water in the wells There are angels everywhere They are lying on the ground just where they fell. There are tears in the back yard Tears on my bed All those damn tears I cried for you because Your cursed love for me is dead..." - Nate Clendenen, Standing Here Listening
Although its hard to draw ties to others that have come before, Nate's music has been likened to Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull, Sting and the Police, Dave Matthews, and even the Promise Ring. Music is art - it helps you through - it puts you down - it shows you truth. Clendenen, who holds over a decade of songwriting to his credit, has toured across the United States and Australia.
