Like a lot of love affairs, wars, and children, Ponticello was started both by accident and on purpose. violinist/composer Chris Murphy , bassist/vocalist Ted Kamp and drummer David Hill had a gig in a bar in Seattle backing up a singer/guitarist and were fired for drinking to much, playing too loud, and taking to many violin solos.
Instead of crying in there beers, they ordererd another round and took stock of things. They had no money, no gigs lined up and no real plans. The only thing they did have, as a matter of fact , was a dream. The dream was to have a band that played the kinda of music they liked, (which was a combination of blues, country, swing, rock and fiddle music) which they could play as loud or soft as wanted, with as many violin solos as they (mostly Chris) wanted. The smart thing for those boys to have done would have been to stop right there, apologise to that poor guitar player and promise to change their ways. That , however, is not what happened. What did happen is that they ordered some shots, and then some more shots, got pissed as newts and realized they didnt have enough money to pay the bill. Sad but true story. Eventually, out of need, desire, passion and craziness, for better or worse, PONTICELLO was born. Chris wanted the music to have the fire and history and richness of the great violin traditions, like celtic, gypsy, classical and bluegrass music. Ted wanted the music to have the subtlety and improvisation of jazz and funk, with the lyricsism of Bob Dylan and Robert Johnson. Dave wanted the music to have the drive and power of house and techno music but be groovey and loose like The Rolling Stones. Mostly, the boys didnt want to get day jobs, loved the idea of being a power trio, and knew someone who might, just might , give them a gig. Jump from that rainy, dreamy night in Seattle, alive with possibilties,to a band that has done over 500 gigs, gone through 7 drummers, made 3 albums of original music, moved to LA, made alot of fans and friends along the way, and still can't pay their bar tab. Chris Murphy has been a professional musician and composer for over 15 years. He has been devolping one of the most unique styles and approaches on the violin by combining his love for traditional and contempory music into one voice. Ted Kamp has performed hundreds of jazz, blues, funk and country gigs over the last 10 years. His beautiful and brutal bass playing and passionate and lyrical singing is a direct result of his fanaticism with music as an art form. Patrick Caccia is from Milan, Italy. He would wither and die if he could not play the drums. Check out the artist's website: http://www.chrismurphymusic.com Track List: 1. Heat Into Light 2. Straight Into the Sun 3. Wandering Blues 4.
