From on stage duets with Koko Taylor to recordings and live perforances with Iowa harmonica legend Patrick Hazell to knock out performances at festivals and clubs everywhere, Sally Weisenburg has been a dominant musical force here in the Midwest since the late 70's. Sally has been compared to a lot of other artists but the bottom line is, she's a great natural singer with her own unique style, comfortable in many genres but most at home in the blues. She is a full-time musician playing either with her 5 piece band, Sally Weisenburg & the Famous Sidemen or with her smaller band, The Sally Weisenburg Trio. Of her several albums, this is the first to feature all original music. Most of the songs on this album were written by husband/guitarist Don Berbaum and his playing is heard throughout this album. The album also features some other notable artists including Blue Rhythm recording artist Patrick Hazell, and long time Irma Thomas (the soul queen of New Orleans) band member, trumpeter Frank E. Parker.
Sally & Don live in a 130 year old farm house in central Illinois. This album was recorded at their home studio in that old house over the span of about one year in 2003. * "This CD is full of great R&B and good old N'awlins soul and boogie woogie. The playing is great, the sound is great, and it's got really cool songs and Sally is as soulful as they come. I'm still enjoying this CD after months of it being in the house. JAMES PENNEBAKER - Guitar, steel guitar, fiddle for Delbert McClinton. * "Singer/keyboardist Sally Weisenburg fronts a top band on "Homemade & Hot" (5 Cats Records), a collection of smoothly grooving original tunes (most written by ace guitarist Don Berbaum). This is a group of seasoned pros who know how to let a song breathe, with great material: the slinky "Words With No Meaning", the soulful horn fueled "Never Felt So Good", and the fast stepping opener "I Want It" are highlights of an excellent set. Frank "The Delta Doctor" Black - WGLT-FM - The blues blow torch of the Midwest. * "This is just flat out one of the best blues cds to come out in the last six months whether nationally released or made in a barn. Hot stuff indeed!" Bob Dorr - KUNI-FM (NPR Iowa) - Bob is host of the blues show, "Down on the Corner" He is also a winner of Iowa RockNRoll Music Association's Hall of Fame. He is the founder and head man of Iowa's great musical aggregation "The Blue Band ". *"My favorite food are mexican, and I like it hot, like this album, hot and spicy. I know only one thing better than hot food and music, and that`s sex. The voice, it goes fantastic with the music, and together with the piano player and the guitar player, it gets really hot. They`re doing one hell of job! Kjell Andraesson - RADIO HOLSTEBRO - DENMARK *Kjell appologizes for his English but, we think you will get his drift.
