stewart brown & catbelly- a collection of 14 songs that move the hip and mind to a place of dance and romance! this is a cd written by stewart brown and performed by catbelly in the same style as their live show. the guitar, bass, and drum lineup moves from acoustic to electric and back while the pot-sturring beat churns on songs about the mythical character "catbelly" who roamed our planet for well over 300 years after his space craft tragically crashed somewhere in the roswell area. as it was told to me, catbelly wandered on foot south to the gulf of mexico in search of food and shelter until he discovered billions of tiny crawfish crossing the interstate. finding an abandoned bucket by the side of the road, catbelly scooped up some 1,200 of the crawfish, and, as he continued his journey in the heat, water in the bottom of the bucket began to slowly boil the contents...thus, the first crawfish boil...given to our culture by aliens!
today, catbelly enjoys a prosperous life as a delta area pimp, "i will never have to carry that bucket again, as long as i live!phospherous in them crawfish is still makin' my dash board glow" "bonnie raitt, john cleary...eat your heart out...overall sound reflects somewhat the music of lenny mcdaniel, tab benoit, anders osborne, tommy malone & the subdudes. i think catbelly blows them away!'"-robert whitaker/metrairie, la. "i've been bitten by catbelly, and, if you're lucky, you will be, too...makes me want to eat really good candy and call old lovers...groovin' bluesy rock that makes the hips move all around...the brew is ever so spicy with the incomparable bass playing of mr. wayne 'kneckbone' mitchum and the forever irreverent mr. john 'jolt-cola' etheridge on drums and percussion...'room with a view' is one that deserves special accolades. with his heartfelt blues twang, stewart's lyrics resonate a love song of epic perportions...destined for a sound track and more"- skye suarez/charleston's free time "...comes across strong and straightforward, which is no surprise to those who have seen brown's live performances...a highly listenable mixture of swing, shuffle, and pop/rock rhythms, which comes out of the gate strong with the high-energy mojo-chuggin'"-liz melendez/southeast performer magazine "...brown's most soulful singing and acoustic and electric guitar work...a music that goes beyond the artist and his individual merits...grounded in southern roots and r&b" -t. ballard lesemann/charleston city paper "my two favorites are 'something good', which you can listen to over and over again, when you're having a good time, and 'the other hand', the kind of song that sooths the ear."-spike wofford/kygt radio/denver, colorado.
