The roots of the Diesel Street Kings began back in 1999 on a hot summer night in New Jersey. Dave and Doug were fresh out of college, frustrated by trying to find a voice in a faltering culture and business of music. They had spent the past few years working in recording studios and music publishers, gaining credibility, but only for the pathetic excuses for sounds that would drift out over their radio dials and lull the masses into complacency.
"Rock is dead" one of them said, sipped a beer and shook his head, and despite all they knew, they knew that it wouldn't be easy to fix. Not even a damn tasty philly cheesesteak sandwich could fix what was wrong, at least not from where they were sitting. They thought for a minute as that patch of grass grew smaller and agreed, "...if we know it's dead, we must know how to bring it back to life." And that's when it all began... 2000 saw an ep from the band - 4 songs written and recorded by the pair and the band, and it gained some small exposure for their music on compilation CDs and through the web. Then at some point, over the next 4 years, Dave's place began its metamorphosis into a poorly disguised recording studio. By then, with the songs, the talent, the equipment and the ability, they asked, "Why not record an album's worth of stuff?" Fine question, one that nobody could answer. Sometimes we find people that make us feel good - the Diesel Street Kings play music that can makes you smile, dance, cry, tap your foot, sing along, or fall in love - sometimes within the course of one song.
